Lab 5 - Mammalian Anatomy I
Please follow these four steps:

Go to Step: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4

Step One
Lab Five is an introduction to "Mammalian Anatomy ". In this lab, you will dissect a virtual fetal pig. Both pigs and humans are mammals; therefore, you will be studying mammalian anatomy of the pig and relate to the anatomy in humans.

The period of pregnancy, or gestation, in pigs is approximately 17 weeks (compared to an average of 40 weeks in humans). the piglets used for this lab will usually be within 1 to 2 weeks of birth.

Instructions: Click on the following links to view the Pre-Lab Lecture Tutorials on your introduction to the anatomy of the fetal pig.

Objective
To be able to identify and understand the external anatomy of the fetal pig and human.

To find and identify the regional and directional anatomyof the fetal pig.

To be able to determine the sex of the fetal pig.

Find, identify, and state a function for the organs of the abdominal cavity such as the liver, stomach, spleen, gallbladder, pancreas, large intestine and small intestine of the digestive system. Describe where these organs are positioned in relation to one another.

Find, identify, and state a function for the organs of the thoracic cavity. Describe where these organs are positioned in relation to one another in the respiratory system.

Step Two
This "Virtual" lab experiment is titled, "VDP Virtual Pig Dissection " Here you'll learn the regional anatomy, directional anatomy and major internal anatomical structures of the fetal pigs digestive and respiratory systems.

Please go to the following links to get all the instructions for doing your dissections at the "VPD" website.
