Objective
To understand basic parts of the microscope and how to use the microscope properly.

To understand the structure and function of the cell.

Step Two
This "Hands On" lab experiment is titled, "The Proper use of the Compound Light Microscope " These virtual exercises simulate how biologist's use microscopes in the lab.

Please go to the following links to get all the instructions for doing your experiments.

EXPERIMENT ONE:

Step One: View the Instructional Video on Using the Microscope

  • Be sure to note the steps on how to properly use the compound light microscope.
  • Click here to view Mitch's Tutorial on using the Virtual Microscope before starting Step Two below

Step Two: Test your skill. Practice what you have learned on a virtual microscope. The virtual scope has all the same controls found on the real thing.

    • blood smear

Step Three: Download and complete this form for each the 4 slides above. Note: You will not turn in but will use to complete lab activity and study for lab quiz.

EXPERIMENT TWO:

Step One: Investigate Simple Diffusion and Osmosis

When you have completed the Activity you are ready to move onto the next secton, Assignment.
